The Transylvania Democratic Women are partnering with  Buncombe and Hendersonville Democratic Women in sponsoring a luncheon Tuesday, March 11, at the Unity Center of Mills River from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.  The featured speaker will be Carol Teal, Executive Director of Lillian’s  List PAC of North Carolina.  Her topic is “Saving Our State:  Partnership Between Lillian’s List and Democratic Women.”

Teal is the first Director of Lillian’s List organization, which was established in North Carolina in 1997.    Lillian’s List has helped elect or re-elect all of the Democratic women currently serving in the General Assembly.

For the special connection Western Democratic Women have with the organization’s namesake, Lillian Exum Clement,  read the News of Organization article in the Monday, February 24 Transylvania Times.  Lillian Exum Clement was the first woman to serve in the North Carolina Assembly and the first in any southern state legislature. Elected in 1920 before the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution passed, she was elected before she could even vote.

Tickets for the buffet luncheon are available through March 6 at $12.00 each.  Contact Jill Roberts at 884-4219 to reserve your place.  No tickets will be sold at the door.
