2025 County Convention
What is County Convention?
The County Convention is where local Democrats shape the future of our party. Here’s what happens:
✅ Elect County Officers – Choose a Chair, three Vice-Chairs, and a Secretary to lead for the next two years. These volunteers set the direction for Democratic efforts in our county.
✅ Select State Executive Committee (SEC) Members – Our county’s representatives will help guide the North Carolina Democratic Party’s statewide strategy.
✅ Choose Delegates for the District Convention – These delegates will represent our county at the next level of party decision-making.
✅ Vote on Resolutions – Approve local resolutions that could shape the party platform and policy priorities.
Your participation ensures Transylvania County has a strong voice in shaping Democratic leadership and policies. Don’t miss this chance to make an impact!

Go See Chuck
🚨 Congressman Chuck Edwards is Coming to Mills River 🚨
Cross-posting from our neighbors at @myhcdp—our Republican Congressman, Chuck Edwards, will be in Mills River tomorrow. His recent actions make it clear where his loyalties lie—and it’s not with the people of Western North Carolina.
In just the past three weeks, here’s what he’s done:
📉 Attacking Critical Programs – Edwards voted to cut Medicare, Medicaid, and food assistance, directly impacting 1 in 5 Transylvania County residents who rely on these essential services.
⚖️ Undermining Congressional Authority – Despite serving on the House Appropriations Committee, he defended unconstitutional executive overreach in the congressional budget process.
🍔 Serving His Own Interests – After criticizing immigrant workers, Edwards introduced a bill that would force unemployment applicants to prove they attended interviews at low-wage jobs—like McDonald’s, which he owns locally—before receiving benefits they’ve already earned.
💊 Endangering Medical Care – He proposed reclassifying fentanyl, a vital hospital pain reliever, as a Schedule 1 drug, which would remove it from medical use entirely.
🇺🇦 Turning His Back on Ukraine – He joined the shameful wave of opposition to supporting Ukraine, even after Donald Trump’s offensive treatment of President Zelenskyy in the Oval Office last week.
Chuck Edwards is putting the interests of billionaires and foreign oligarchs ahead of Western North Carolina’s workers, struggling families, and constitutional democracy.
💰 Chuck works for the rich—not for us.
🗳️ We deserve a representative who puts WNC first. Let’s hold him accountable.

Protect Our Parks Protest
On Wednesday, Donald Trump signed an "Emergency Order" declaring open season on our National Forests, National Parks, and federal public lands—paving the way for mass privatization. This follows the firing of National Forest and Parks staff, a move straight out of Project 2025’s extremist playbook.
Join the Transylvania Young Progressives for an emergency protest and rally this Saturday, March 1st, at 12:00 PM at the Pisgah Forest Gate (Hwy 276, near Hawg Wild BBQ).
WHERE: New bridge parking area, left of Hwy 276 past Hawg Wild BBQ
WHEN: Saturday, March 1st, 12:00 PM
WHAT TO BRING: Signs, banners, bullhorns—let’s make our voices heard!
Pisgah belongs to the people, not billionaires. Show up, speak out, and fight back.
24 hour Economic Blackout
As our first initial act, we turn it off.
For one day we show them who really holds the power
WHEN:
Thursday February 27th from Midnight till Friday The 28th Midnight
(A full 24 hours of the 28th)
12:00 AM to 12:00 AM
WHAT NOT TO DO:
Do not make any purchases
Do not shop online, or in-store
No Amazon, No Walmart, No Best Buy
Nowhere!
Do not spend money on:
Fast Food
Gas
Major Retailers
Do not use Credit or Debit Cards for non essential spending
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Only buy essentials of absolutely necessary
(Food, Medicine, Emergency Supplies)
If you must spend, ONLY support small, local businesses.
SPREAD THE MESSAGE
Talk about it, post about it, and document your actions that day!
WHY THIS MATTERS!
~ Corporations and banks only care about their bottom line.
~ If we disrupt the economy for just ONE day, it sends a powerful message.
~ If they don't listen (they wont) we make the next blackout longer (We will)
This is our first action.
This is how we make history.
February 28th
The 24 Hour Economic Black Out Begins.

We also invite other aligned groups in our community to come together for an evening of solidarity, strategy, and support for one another!
No cover charge, family-friendly with outdoor space, we invite anyone who wants to protect our American republic and the way of life we've always known.

Feb 18 - TCDP Monthly Meeting
The Transylvania County Democratic Party meets monthly, on the Third Tuesday.

Chats with the Chair
Join us for Chats with the Chair, an informal, no-agenda conversation with TCDP Interim Chair Peter Offen. Whether you have questions about local politics, ideas for the party, or just want to get to know Peter, this is your chance! Grab a coffee, pull up a chair, and chat about whatever’s on your mind—no speeches, no pressure, just an open discussion with fellow community members. Everyone is welcome!

National Day of Protest
Join us on Monday, February 17th at 1pm outside the Transylvania County Courthouse to demand real leadership for our community.
From our local commissioners to state representatives and all the way to the White House, Republicans have failed to govern for the people. They have ignored urgent issues, choosing political games over real solutions.
Locally, our county commissioners have refused to fix our crumbling schools, invest in affordable housing, or create good-paying jobs for Transylvanians.
At the state level, Rep. Mike Clampitt and Sen. Kevin Corbin have turned their backs on Western North Carolina, failing to fight for hurricane relief and the resources our communities need to rebuild.
Nationally, Donald Trump continues to attack our democracy, our rights, and our most vulnerable communities—all while enriching himself and his billionaire allies.
These failures aren’t isolated incidents—they are part of a deliberate agenda that puts power and profit over people. If we stay silent, they will continue to strip away our rights, defund our communities, and ignore the needs of working families.
This Presidents’ Day, let’s send a clear message: We deserve better. Stand with us and demand leadership that works for the people—not against them.
