Child Tax Credit
The American Rescue Plan (ARP) passed by Democrats in 2021 included an updated version of the Child Tax Credit.
This legislation transformed the child tax credit into a monthly cash benefit for families, it expanded eligibility to households with little or no taxable income for the first time in our history.
Families in Transylvania County received $250 per kid ages 6 to 17 or $300 for each child age 5 and under between July and December 2021. The other half of the money was provided when folks filed their taxes, in all the expanded tax credit totaled $3,000 for older children and $3,600 annually for younger kids.
Because of resistance from the majority of Senate Republicans and Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Democrats have been unable to renew the program in 2022.
The American Rescue Plan was the most consequential piece of legislation for working families in Transylvania County in modern American history. Democrats helped Transylvania County residents while every single Republican in Washington DC VOTED AGAINST it!
Elections have consequences, electing Democrats in 2020 paved the way for the American Rescue Plan to be passed.
If you believe and want Congress to ensure families have needed resources available in Transylvania County to expand access to pre-K, invest in early childhood workforce, to extend the child tax credit then VOTE for Cheri Beasley and Jasmine Beach-Ferrara on November 8, 2022.
